Wellbeing when taking part in u3a activities

Attending u3a events, activities and groups can be great fun – when all is well.
Stubbington u3a committee has been made aware that groups at other u3as have had medical incidents occur, including one which took place on a coach trip. A member had an underlying health problem which had not been disclosed and this flared up during an outing.
Our committee would encourage members to consider speaking to their group leaders should this be something that resonates with them.
Do YOU have an underlying health condition?
Do YOU routinely carry emergency medication, e.g. inhalers or epipens?
If yes, have you raised awareness of this with your group leader or other members of your group?
Of course you are under no obligation to do this, but it could be a wise thing to do.
Apart from reducing the amount of alarm which could occur if you suddenly felt unwell, you would also be able to explain in advance what, if any, assistance would be helpful in that situation.
NOTE: there is NO obligation for any u3a member, including group leaders, to take responsibility for the medical needs of others.
A Personal Members Risk Assessment form is available on the Stubbington u3a website for any member to use should they wish to do so.
