Walking Group "D" is intended for people who prefer to walk longer distances, typically 5 to 7 miles (8 to 11 kms). We walk all year round and generally away from the immediate vicinity of Stubbington. Our walks often start half an hour’s drive away so that we can access the South Downs and the Meon Valley, which offer very enjoyable walking. Walks often entail going up and down hills and climbing over stiles, although we avoid prolonged steep slopes. Members do need to be fit enough to do this. We also walk along the coast, usually some miles to the east of Stubbington, such as around Hayling Island and Emsworth.

Walks take place on the 4th Thursday of each month starting at 10:15 and are chosen for their interest and variety of scenery. A map and description are sent by email prior to each walk, which are mostly circular, beginning and ending at the same parking place, and we always stop at the half way point for rest and refreshments.

Whilst our stated walking distance is 5 - 7 miles, most walks are in the 5.5 to 6 mile range, typically taking 2.5 hours or so. Most of our walks start at or near a pub, as quite a number of the group like to enjoy a lunch after the walk. We like to have reasonably keen members in the group, so we would ask members to come on at least five walks a year. Dogs are not permitted to avoid problems with animals..
