Welcome to Stubbington u3a Bird Watching and Nature Group.
(A very friendly and welcoming group)
We meet at the Tichfield Haven Reservation, Hillhead at the reception area on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. The members meet from 12.30pm. Some of the group eat a packed lunch there so arrive a little earlier. There is time for something to eat and drink whist we catch up on birdwatching, nature news, look at photographs taken and discuss future outings.
After discussion the group will decide what bird hides we will be using to spend the afternoon in. Individuals tend to choose what hides they prefer. If you are new to bird watching, there is always a member of the group who can help you identify the birds seen.
Binoculars are an advantage. The Visitors’ Centre do have some for loan.
The admission charge is normally £5.50 if over 60 years of age and £6.50 if under. Members of Haven can sign you in as a guest at a reduced rate. The car parks do have a charge but parking along the cliff road is currently free.
We normally spend 2 to 3 hours on the reservation but members leave as suits them or go back to reception for a cuppa.
We are very privileged to have the Titchfield Reservation and Meon Shore in our area as it is one of the South’s most prolific areas for sea birds, waders and wildfowl. With many more rare bird sightings, Glossy Ibis, Spoonbills, Eider Duck and Ringed Plover have been visiting in the reservation and the Meon Shore.
As a group we do venture further afield through the year. Blashford Lakes is a regular and the Wildgrounds in the Alver Valley where we did an organised bat walk. The intention is to be more adventurous and do boat trips and reservations in other counties
Please come and join us.
